o Metalwork
Working within Glasgow Sculpture Studios, I undertook two local authority commissions to design, build and install primary school gates for the rural communities of Ardgour, Ardnamurchan and Kirkhill, Inverness.
The Ardgour gate features bull rushes which grow by the loch and the pedestrian gate features a goat, requested by the community because Ardour means high goat. The owl on the gate post alludes to wisdom.
Barley is a crop found in the fields around the village of Kirkhill and inspired the gate’s main design feature. There is another owl perched on the gate post here too. Both gates are made of forged steel, galvanised and painted.
